Officials: Walker County Wildfire Leaves 700 Acres Burned

HUNTSVILLE (AP) -- Officials say a wildfire has burned more than one square mile north of Huntsville in Walker County.
The Texas A&M Forest Service says about 80 percent of the fire that broke out Monday has been contained. Officials say they believe the wildfire was started when a vehicle carrying hay blew a tire, creating sparks that caused a small fire in a field.
Walker County Emergency Management Coordinator Butch Davis says the fire spread west from the intersection of FM 980 and FM 2628. Four structures have been destroyed, but it's unclear if they're homes. No injuries have been reported.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered for about 300 homes in the Woodlands Hills Drive and the Wallace Road subdivisions. Residents of the Woodlands Hills subdivision have since been told they can return to their homes.
