Officer Shoots Suspect In Garland

GARLAND, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Garland Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Friday night.

It happened at Miller and Saturn.

Garland Police confirm one suspect was shot and injuries are non-life threatening. No officers were hurt.

The suspect ran from officers after the suspect was shot.

The suspect and the officers ended up in the 2600 block of South Garland Road.

Around 6:30 p.m. two officers were stuck in traffic on Miller near Garland Road when they noticed a white SUV had crashed into a fence behind them.

They say they got out of their car to help the driver, but he backed up and started driving towards them. Officers fired, hitting the driver twice. The driver drove away and officers jumped in their car to follow him.

They chased him to strip mall where they were able to take him into custody without further incident.

Two children were in the car and they were not hurt.

As of 9:50 p.m. Friday, police don't know where the suspect was struck by a bullet, if he had any outstanding warrants, or if drugs or alcohol was involved.
