Suspect Dead After Officer Involved Shooting In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An early morning police chase in Dallas ends with an officer involved shooting and a suspect dead.

According to police, the incident began just before 5 a.m. when a man driving a stolen pickup crashed into a parked car on Indianola Street. When the homeowner came outside to investigate the suspect fired several shots.

Police received an active shooter call and after locating the suspect vehicle chased the driver to the 9300 block of Havencove Drive, where the man had crashed the truck into a creek.

"He was ordered out of the vehicle by officers. He got out of the vehicle with a weapon," explained Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall. "Officers ordered him to lower the weapon, drop the weapon. He raised the weapon in the officer's direction and they fired shots striking the suspect and he is now deceased."

In all, there were three police officers and one lieutenant at the scene when shots were fired and Chief Hall said several officers discharged their weapons.

Friday morning police hadn't determined if the suspect, only identified as a Latin male approximately 27-years-old, fired any shots.

The homeowner who was shot at was not injured and neither were any of the officers. Police are still actively investigating the incident.
