FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM)A man wanted for questioning in a Fort Worth murder investigation has died, after being shot by police.

"As they approached the individual, he pulled a handgun and gave chase," said Sgt. Chris Daniels.

Officers ran in pursuit of their person of interest, when they say he threatened them.

"He turned and displayed the handgun toward the officers. It was a deadly force situation. They responded to that threat," said Daniels.

Police say at least one officer opened fire, striking the man who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Several people who said they witnessed the shooting disputed the police's account, saying they did not see the man pose any threat.

"They were shooting at him. All he was doing was running. He had no gun. Nothing was wrong with him.  Then they shot him right in the back," said Dayla Brown.

Police have not identified the man killed or explained what murder case they wanted to speak to him about.
