Officer-Involved Shooting In Euless; Suspect Has Died

UPDATE: Saturday, February 21 -- The Tarrant County Medical Examiner reports that the suspect involved in the shooting Friday night, Ruben Villalpando of North Richland Hills has died. More details as we get them.

EULESS (CBSDFW.COM) -- A Grapevine Police officer shot a man twice during an attempted traffic stop in Euless on Friday night.

Police say the man was transferred by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. His condition is unknown. The officer was not injured.

The shooting occurred in Euless on Highway 121 near the Cheek-Sparger exit just after 6:30 p.m. According to police, as the officer approached the vehicle, he fired his weapon twice. The driver of the vehicle was struck twice in the chest.

It is unclear why the officer discharged his weapon.

"It's always dangerous anytime you pull over a vehicle," said Robert Eberling with Grapevine Police. "Many things that could go wrong with a traffic stop."

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
