EULESS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Euless Police officer was shot Tuesday afternoon as was a suspect at J.A. Carr Park.

Euless Police Chief Mike Brown confirmed at 5:00 p.m. both the officer, David Hofer, 29 and suspect died at area hospitals.

Chief Brown says the suspect fired at the officer right after the officer approached.

"The suspect immediately fired at officers, striking one of them. Officers returned fire striking the suspect," said Chief Mike Brown.

Chief Brown gave no other details in a brief news conference.

A pair of area schools were on lockdown as a precaution but those lockdowns were lifted shortly after 3:30 p.m.

The first and only other time a Euless officer died in the line of duty was when Officer Michael Williamson was hit by a drunk driver in 1982, according to the city's website.
