Jerry Wouldn't Trade Hot Romo For Any QB

IRVING (The Fan) - Quarterback Tony Romo's 26th comeback win over the New York Giants last week has prompted a national discussion of how good the 35-year-old Pro Bowl passer really is, and now it is Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' turn to weigh in.
On Friday on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said Romo is at the top of his game, and a failure to capture a championship would be his greatest letdown in 26 years of ownership.
"Tony is really is good," Jones said in a visit with the 'G-Bag Nation.'' "And I've said this. I want to restate it: if he should go through a career with the Cowboys and not have knocked on the door one -- I'm going to go as far as say won a Super Bowl, it would be my biggest disappointment having owned this team. He is a quarterback that can win Super Bowls. He is a franchise quarterback. I really would not, I really would not (trade him for any other QB), for what we've got ahead of us. He's who I want as opposed to a choice throughout the league."
Last season, Romo led the league with a 113.2 passer rating. The Cowboys were 12-3 with him in the lineup, and the three losses were directly attributed to the four-time Pro Bowler's poor health in those games against San Francisco, Washington, and Philadelphia. Dallas fell short 26-21 in the divisional playoffs to the Green Bay Packers, but Romo, branded by some as a turnover machine and dismal in the clutch, did not commit a turnover.
Jones stands by his words that he would choose Romo over the likes of an Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, or Andrew Luck.
"It's not hyperbole, either," said Jones. "I really mean it. He's got skills and his ability to read defenses, his ability to read them impromptu plus be able to obviously make some plays that aren't there. All of those things, plus his experience now, which we're seeing is that experience.
"But with these last two or three seasons, it's unfortunate he's had that injury season, or injury seasons, really over the last five or six years. But still, we're getting the best of him now, and the best of him is probably, in my mind, the best there is."
Romo will be without receiver Dez Bryant for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The Cowboys are 6-0 against the Eagles when Romo throws for 300 yards or more, a task that looms large as the club plays its first game without Bryant in four seasons. Since 2010, the Cowboys are 3-2 with Bryant out of the lineup.
