ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Oakland Athletics are reportedly set to add former Rangers manager Ron Washington to their coaching staff.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman has confirmed the arrangement, in which Washington will help with Oakland's struggling defense.

Washington resigned as Texas' manager last September to address an "off-the-field personal matter." He later faced the media and provided some insight into the matter, saying he was "not true to my wife after 42 years."

He left the organization as the franchise's all-time leader in regular season wins (664) and games managed (1275), leading Texas to consecutive AL pennants.

Oakland ranks last in MLB in fielding percentage (.972) and has committed a league high 43 errors -- 9 more than any other team.

Prior to joining Texas, Washington played 20 seasons in the minor and major leagues, before spending four years as a minor league coach and 11 seasons as an assistant in Oakland.
