NTTA Toll Tags Accepted Soon In Oklahoma
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Soon, you'll be OK to use your NTTA TollTag in OK.
Starting Aug. 10, North Texas Tollway Authority TollTags can be used to pay tolls on Oklahoma Turnpike Authority PIKEPASS lanes. In the past, Texas drivers entering Oklahoma were required to stop and pay a higher cash rate when entering the PIKEPASS lanes.
This change will save time and money for NTTA customers headed north because drivers with TollTag stickers will be charged the discounted rate that OTA customers already receive. Likewise, OTA customers can use their PIKEPASS sticker to pay for NTTA roads and TEXpress lanes.
"A TollTag is the least expensive, most convenient way to use toll roads in Texas and now it will travel farther than ever," NTTA Chairman Kenneth Barr said.
NTTA toll projects are not a part of the state highway system and therefore receive no direct tax funding. The money collected by the tolls goes towards the operation and maintenance of major roadways in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant and Johnson counties. Examples of NTTA projects include the Dallas North Tollway, President George Bush Turnpike and Sam Rayburn Tollway among others.
Due to different technology used by each tolling Authority, OTA will only recognize NTTA's sticker TollTag. NTTA hard-case TollTags and license plate tags cannot be used on OTA roads.
NTTA customers who use PIKEPASS lanes without a TollTag account in good standing may be treated as violators by OTA and fined $25 for not paying the turnpike toll. Cash customers must continue to use OTA toll booths.
For customer convenience, NTTA will replace older hard-case tags with new sticker tags free of charge at NTTA TollTag stores, online at NTTA.org or over the phone 972-818-NTTA (6882) or 817-731-NTTA (6882).
