Driver Dies After Driving Off I-35W Bridge In Fort Worth

UPDATE: Fort Worth Police confirmed around 4:30 p.m. the driver died.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Stephen Dean, 46, of Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - One person died Tuesday after their vehicle drove off a bridge in Fort Worth. The victim's SUV was traveling southbound on Interstate-35W when it left the roadway on a bridge near 28th Street.

The black SUV ended up smashed on the ground near Watauga Road and Cold Spring Road.

As Fort Worth police continued their investigation into the incident yesterday, a spokesperson said they believe an 18-wheeler traveling northbound on 35W hit the concrete barrier and obstructed the view of southbound traffic. They believe the black SUV was traveling southbound and hit the concrete barrier and flew off the freeway.

MedStar spokesperson Matt Zavadsky said, "The victim inside the vehicle did require extrication by the Fort Worth Fire Department."

The victim was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition where he later died.

All lanes of north and southbound I-35W at 28th were closed during the investigation.
