Northeast Storm Causing DFW Travel Delays

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas is seeing beautiful weather on Tuesday, with spring-like temperatures and sunny skies. But it is a totally different story in the northeastern part of the nation. A weather system that had been dubbed 'Blizzard 2015' blanketed several states in snow.

The snowstorm has not been as bad as initially predicted, but only because as much as two feet of snow was expected to come down in some parts of the region. New York City was not close to that prediction, and the city's Blizzard Warning was canceled on Tuesday morning.

But that does not mean that this nor'easter is over. The storm is still passing through on Tuesday, and the area remains buried in snow. Plus, there is still a travel ban on streets and highways -- except for first responders -- across New York City, Long Island and New Jersey.

And, as is always the case, travel delays in the nation's largest airports ultimately create travel delays in North Texas as well. DFW International Airport had a fair share of tired and stranded travelers on Tuesday morning, people who were forced to sleep at the terminal due to winter weather slammed their destination.

There were about 7,700 flights in and out of the northeast that had to be canceled on Monday. Some of those customers may not get on a flight until Wednesday. This includes air travel in and around New York City, Boston, Connecticut and Philadelphia.

"I feel really lucky that we got out," traveler John Taylor, one of the last people to get out of the northeast region, stated after landing in North Texas. "I feel bad for those who are stuck. I don't know how long they'll get stuck."

Anyone planning to travel on Tuesday is advised to check their flight's status before heading to the airport. Some of the major airlines -- American Airlines, United Airlines, U.S. Airways -- are even responding to customers on Twitter.
