North Texas Snow Fun For Some, Hard Work For Others

DENTON (CBS 11 NEWS) - As icicles formed over Denton County,  people donned their thick winter jackets for a stroll through the snow.

"It's nice to get out and enjoy it every once in a while when it comes out," said Patrick Griggs, a local student.

The ice, though, is keeping Oscar Longoria hard at work. A Denton city employee, he arrived at seven in the morning to work a 16-hour shift, behind the wheel of  a sand truck.

"So we'll be here until 11 o'clock at night," he said.

The city deployed all six of its trucks to patrol the area in search of icy roads and treat them with a sandy mixture.

Crews are also keeping an eye out for wrecked or stranded drivers.

"If they need it, we stop and help them out," said Longoria.

Most local residents are sure to express their appreciation, making the work feel worthwhile. "They send letters to the city," Longoria said adding, "and we like it."
