Several North Texas schools cancel, delay classes after severe storms

Garland ISD cancels classes amid severe storms

NORTH TEXAS – Storms moved across North Texas Tuesday morning, bringing damaging winds and flooding with it.

Hundreds of thousands of residents are without power. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins issued a disaster declaration due to the longevity of the outages and damages caused by the storms.

Several school districts and universities are closing or delaying classes as a result. 

Thursday, May 29

Irving ISD

Irving ISD announced early Thursday morning that two campuses will remain closed on the last day of school "out of concern for the safety and comfort of students and staff."

Power has been restored to all Irving ISD campuses except Good Elementary School and Austin Middle School. 

All other Irving ISD campuses and facilities will be open.

Garland ISD

Garland ISD canceled classes for Thursday, which effectively ends their school year. Garland was within the track of a tornado warning Tuesday morning.
