Former North Texas women's basketball player Jalie Mitchell is returning to her alma mater as coach.

Mitchell, the career scorer leader for the Mean Green, will be introduced at a news conference Thursday. She spent the past three seasons as an assistant at Texas.

North Texas announced last month that Mike Petersen wouldn't return after three seasons. The Mean Green went 5-24 last season and had a three-year record of 28-61 under Petersen.

Mitchell scored 1,764 points and made all-conference all four seasons with North Texas. She was the Sun Belt player of the year as a senior in 2001-02.
