KAUFMAN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The FBI's evidence response team and Kaufman County Sheriffs Department returned to accused murderer Eric Williams' house early Thursday morning.
They searched for one of the weapons used in the killings that made national headlines.
In addition to looking inside, investigators also dug up the backyard.
A source tells me detectives searched for the upper part of an AR-15 used in the shootings of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia in March of last year.
But the source says investigators did not find it at the house.
Williams and his ex-wife Kim are accused of murdering the couple and top assistant Kaufman County District Attorney Mark Hasse.
Investigators previously recovered the gun used in Hasse's murder in Lake Tawakoni.
Eric Williams now faces the death penalty.
One neighbor, Gil Altom, out walking his pet Boston Terrier, didn't know what to think about all of the police activity Thursday morning. "I wish it would all end in our neighborhood. The last time we had the tv presence here, and encountered all the people, it was kind of locked down for awhile."
The search is now over at Eric Williams' house.
It comes the day before his attorneys will ask a judge to supress evidence and to delay his trial starting December 1st.
Jury selection begins in neighboring Rockwall County September 22nd.
