No Morning Rain Delays At Friday's Crowne Plaza Invitational At Colonial

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Skies weren't exactly clear, but there were no rain delays Friday morning at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Fort Worth.
There were no torrential showers like yesterday, but a few sprinkles fell early in the morning.
Colonial tournament director Michael Tothe was glad for the break in the weather. "We feel we're in a better position this morning than we were yesterday. It's a little bit overcast with a little bit of drizzle, but we're on pace and on schedule so it's good news."
On Thursday downpours, thunder and lightning caused a more than three-hour rain delay. Before it was over, more than an inch of rain fell on the greens of the Colonial. Looking back Tothe said, "Compared to yesterday we're good!"
Once again fans made their way to the golf course early. Golfers started teeing off at 7:15 a.m.
When hometown champ Jordan Spieth teed off at 8:06 a.m., the rain stopped for a few minutes. Going into the second round of qualifying, Spieth was tied for the lead. Spieth is playing in the first of consecutive events here in North Texas.
Fans showed up with umbrellas in hand to watch the moment.
"It's just amazing. (I'm) shaking with excitement. Sometimes it's kind of hard to whisper," said Brad O'Leary.
"I like Jordan. I think he's a great player. Just to see him face to face tee off , it was awesome," said Jamie Dimon.

While the majority of fans will have their eyes on Spieth, Colonial and PGA Tour officials will be keeping a close watch on Mother Nature. Tothe said, "We're always evaluating the weather, and the Tour handles that, meteorologists handle that and I'm updated accordingly."
There's a 30-percent chance of showers Friday, with isolated storms possible in the afternoon. But the rain is expected to taper off toward the evening. Laughing, Tothe was clear about how he feels about the wet weather. "We've had enough. Let's just get it out of here. I mean we're done with it really."
