NFL Reaches Settlement In North Texas Super Bowl Ice Lawsuit Case
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The NFL is confirming that it has settled a lawsuit brought against the league by a half-time worker who was injured by falling ice at Cowboys Stadium while preparing for the 2011 Super Bowl.
News of the out-of-court settlement comes as a jury is deliberating a case brought by the same worker against the architecture firm that designed the massive stadium in Arlington. Testimony in that case began nearly a month ago.
There are reports that the settlement with the NFL also includes an agreement with the Dallas Cowboys and other parties. The settlement amount has not been disclosed. The Dallas Cowboys are not confirming or commenting on the settlement.
Half-time worker Severin Sampson filed suit after he was badly hurt by chunks of ice that slid off the roof of Cowboys Stadium, recently renamed AT&T Stadium. A total of six workers were hurt when the ice cascaded off of the stadium's roof in February 2011.
Sampson was asking for more than seven million dollars from the architecture firm.
