TRENTON, N.J. (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - New Jersey officials said that a nurse who was quarantined after working with Ebola patients in West Africa is being released.

The state Health Department said in a statement on Monday that Kaci Hickox had been symptom-free for 24 hours and would be transported on a private carrier to Maine.

Hickox graduated from the University of Texas-Arlington and returned from Sierra Leone on Friday, where she had been working with Ebola virus patients as a member of Doctors Without Borders. Upon her arrival, when taking her temperature at Newark Liberty International Airport, Hickox showed a fever. She was rushed to the hospital and placed in isolation, though a blood test came back negative for Ebola.

A doctor from Doctors Without Borders tested positive for Ebola last week in New York City.

Hickox has complained about her treatment in New Jersey and has even talked about suing. She was the first person to be forced into a mandatory quarantine in the state, which was first announced on Friday by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for people arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport from three West African countries.

"When she has time to reflect, she'll understand," said Christie, speaking about the quarantine at a campaign event in Florida on Monday morning.
