FRISCO(CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas parents can be the first to try a new Uber-like service for pediatric house calls. Frisco and Plano will be the first markets for the local business that just went live Friday.
Jennifer Calyer has been part of a group of test moms during North Texas-based PediaQ's beta period over the last couple of months. Sure enough, during that time, her ten-year-old daughter Zoe felt congested on a Sunday when their pediatrician's office was closed.
"She does have allergies, and so I wanted to make sure that she isn't going into something else, that it's just staying in the allergy phase," says Calyer. Because sometimes it can switch into bronchitis or something like that."
Calyer quickly pulled out her iPhone, pressed the PediaQ app, and requested a nurse practitioner to come to her home.
"My iPad will go off. I swipe it, and I accept the request," says Linda Stevenson, a PediaQ nurse practitioner.
After a quick phone assessment, the nurse practitioner is on the way and promises to be at your home within an hour. The company's founder and CEO has plans to expand across the country, but he wanted a test market with a strong community full of kids with tech-savvy parents.
"The Frisco market being one of the fastest-growing markets in the country along with North Plano seemed like an ideal market," says PediaQ founder Jon O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan says his pricing is competitive with urgent care facilities, and fees for services are clearly detailed on the company's website. He's encouraged by early feedback from test moms.
"It's just the convenience factor of not having to pack people up later in the evening, whether it's a weekend or in the middle of the night and go somewhere," says Calyer. "They come to you, so everybody else gets to stay asleep."
