CORINTH (CBSDFW.COM) - North Central Texas College in Corinth was on lockdown Friday and anyone there was asked to "shelter in place" after reports of  a possible "armed person on foot reported in the area."

The lockdown was lifted shortly before 2:00pm.

Lieutenant Jimmie Gregg, with the Corinth Police Department, said the incident started with a crash on southbound Interstate-35E, but it quickly escalated into something much bigger. He explained that, "The subject soon fled on foot, crossed both lanes of the highway of Interstate 35. Officers pursued him in the general area of NCTC, where they lost him."

Officers recovered a handgun near the crash scene, and Lt. Gregg said the person may be a suspect in a recent drive-by shooting in Lewisville.

Police said the campus will remain on lockdown until the man is found.
