NAACP Weighs In On Deadly Shooting Of Unarmed Arlington Teen

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 NEWS) – The Arlington NAACP is now issuing their opinion on the shooting death of 19-year old Christian Taylor, who was killed by an Arlington police officer on Friday, August 7.
Surveillance video shows Taylor was jumping on the hood of a car at a dealership. He later breaks the front window and climbs inside. Sometime after that he gets into his own car and drives it through the front gate at the dealership crashing into the showroom.
Alisa Simmons, the president of the Arlington NAACP said "We want a thorough investigation. However, We want it to be swift."
The video did not show what happened in the showroom when responding officers confronted Taylor.
According to detectives, officer Brad Miller who was still undergoing a 16-week field training period with Arlington PD shot Taylor several times.
Simmons went on to say that given the current climate of racial tensions involving white police officers and young black male race needs to be looked at as a possible factor in Taylor's shooting death.
Simmons added, "I think it need to be part of the discussion in light of what is happening nationwide."
However, Taylor's family is not in complete agreement with that sentiment.
Adrian Taylor, the 19-year old's brother said, "I don't want it to be a race thing. I don't want it to be a black white thing, because it could happen to anybody."
The NAACP and Taylor's family both agreed on wanting the facts of this investigation to surface quickly.
