Murder of Teen Stuns Wichita Falls Community

WICHITA FALLAS (AP) –  Police in North Texas say a 20-year-old man has been arrested after being accused of fatally shooting one teenage girl and injuring another as the two were walking home from school.

Lauren Landavazo and Makayla Smith, both 13 years old, were shot Friday afternoon while walking home from their middle school. Landavazo was killed. Police say Smith is in stable condition at an area hospital.

Wichita Falls Police Chief Manuel Borrego says Kody Austin Lott was arrested Sunday afternoon and he later confessed to the shooting. Police have not given a motive for the shooting.

Lott is currently being held in the Wichita Falls County Jail charged with murder, aggravated assault and posseion of a prohibited weapon.
