GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Camaraderie and the pursuit of bragging rights has brought about 70 Texas motorcycle cops together in Grand Prairie.

For the fifth straight year, Grand Prairie police are hosting their Spring Classic Motorcycle Rodeo.

"My biggest thing just being out here is becoming the best the safest motorcycle officer I can become," says Garland Police Officer Tim McClure.

For two days, Friday and Saturday, these officers come together to train and show off their skills in track competitions.

"It's challenging.  They've put together a real good course," says David Magers of Venus P.D.

Their bikes are big and hefty, but to earn their real bragging rights, their turns have to be agile and precise.

"You've really got to hit your marks or else you are not going to make it through," says Magers.

And this time, Mother Nature hasn't done the competitors any favors.

"Our first run this morning, it was coming down hard," says Magers.  "There's still some water on there so it makes it a little iffy going through some of those lines because it is slick."

Grand Prairie police Chief Steve Dye said the event is not only friendly fun and competition for the officers, but there is also a charitable element to it all.

Chief Dye said, "It's for a worthy cause. Not only does it enhance their ability, but all the proceeds go to Special Olympic Texas to help the 54,000 athletes around the state of Texas that have intellectual disabilities."

The event runs all day Saturday and folks with motorcycles can bring them out and ride the courses as well at the Home Depot located at 5280 S. SH-360 in Grand Prairie.
