Most Highways Passable, But Side Streets Icy
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - The traffic story has been the same across much of the Metroplex on Monday morning, as icy road conditions persist throughout North Texas after weekend storms. Highways are typically passable, as long as drivers move slowly. But the frontage roads, side streets and parking lots present the biggest problems.
A thin sheet of ice covers many roadways, making it very slick for those hoping to get around.
And there has been no shortage of crashes, as one driver after another loses control on icy patches. Several drivers explained that their travels seems fine because they were being careful and taking it slow. But then, the driver in front of them started to spin, and crashes became unavoidable.
"I was driving in the left lane and a car lost control next to me," explained driver Josh West. "I had to move out of his way and started spinning. Hit the side barrier and it kicked me out over here."
"I just saw him on the side of the road and a cop trying to pull him out," added Nick Hebert, who tried to help out stranded drivers. "I turned around and came to see if he needed any help."
The Texas Department of Transportation said that sanding trucks have been deployed to some recent trouble spots, and will continue to work on any problem areas throughout Monday.
