DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It seems only fitting that the final regular season game of Roger Staubach's career came against the Washington Redskins. It seems even more fitting that Staubach rallied the Dallas Cowboys to a victory in that game.

The Cowboys and Redskins squared off in the final game of the 1979 season with the winner of the contest claiming the NFC East division title.

It appeared as though Washington was set to win when they took a 34-21 lead with three minutes left in the game. But that was more than enough time for Staubach to create some magic.

Staubach found Ron Springs for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 2:20 left in the game, pulling Dallas to 34-28. That is when the Cowboys 'Doomsday Defense' stepped up to shut down the Redskins. Larry Cole stuffed Washington running back John Riggins for a loss on 3rd and 1, forcing Washington to punt the ball away.

Staubach led the Cowboys on a final drive, hitting Tony Hill with an 8-yard touchdown pass for the game-winning score.

Dallas won the game 35-34 to win the NFC East and knock the Redskins out of the playoffs.
