FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Fort Worth mother who sparked an Amber Alert on Sunday explained on Monday that she wanted to start a new life with her 15-month-old daughter, named Twinkle Twlight. While in custody, Vicki Miles said that she had passports and tickets, and was ready to leave the country.
When police found her, Miles had shaved her head and eyebrows, and was wearing a wig. She admitted to walking off with her toddler on Sunday while her family was visiting with the girl.
"Then I started running, and all the kids are like, 'Oh my God! Grandma's running!'" said Miles.
Miles stated that she has 11 children -- most of them grown -- and nine grandchildren. She lost custody of Twinkle six months ago. "We was living in a hotel in Mesquite, and it had roaches in it and bedbugs," she said.
The baby, Miles said, was sleeping on the floor and living in conditions the state ruled unsafe. Police said that Twinkle was put with a family member on Sunday. "My cousin," Miles added. "I wasn't comfortable with her."
Miles explained that she was trying to get more time with her daughter, but she had second thoughts about this plan when she realized that her daughter no longer felt close to her. While hiding from police, Miles said, the young girl refused to breastfeed and pulled away when Miles tried to hold her.
"Like, at nighttime, she cries, and I think she's crying for her foster mom. Seems like the lady who was taking care of her," said Miles.
Police found Miles and her daughter after they showed up at the home of her estranged husband.
Miles has given her other kids memorable names as well, including Mariah Carey and Thumbelina. She told CBS 11 News that she has several more names picked out for future children. "I'm going to have three more children," she said.
