Mom Accused In DWI Crash That Killed Her Kids
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A car crash on Saturday night left two children dead and another two children injured, and their mother has been accused of driving drunk in the incident. Authorities said that 30-year-old Crystal Suniga had her four kids in the car when she drove up to three times over the posted speed limit along Pioneer Street.
The mother has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of injury to a child and one count of intoxication assault.
The speed limit where the fatal crash took place is 30 mph. Suniga's vehicle slammed into two parked cars. Her 16-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter sustained injuries which were not life threatening. However, 14-year-old Angel Reyes and 10-year-old Ricardo Hernandez could not be saved.
"The car came to rest on the left side, on the passenger side, and they were, unfortunately, they were pinned under the car," stated Irving Police Department spokesman James McLellan.
Neighbors nearby heard the loud car crash. "We just approached the car and the little girl was screaming that she was looking for the other three brothers that were in the car," said Adan Osuna.
Grief counselors will be at Gilbert Elementary School and Austin Middle School on Monday, where the two deceased victims attended classes.
