NORTH TEXAS – As the season of giving is underway, CBS News Texas has teamed up with Tom Thumb and Albertsons to highlight nonprofits making a difference in their communities year-round, while offering a $1,000 donation.

Among them is Mi Escuelita Preschool, an organization passionate about teaching English to Hispanic children in North Texas.

At Mi Escuelita Preschool in Dallas, learning truly becomes the language of hope.

"They are now English speakers," said CEO Jessica Reich, reflecting on the transformative journey of her students.

The school teaches English as a second language to preschool-aged children, creating a strong foundation for their educational futures.

"Spanish is for home—don't let them lose that; celebrate that," Reich said. "But with school, they need to learn English because that is what the school districts teach."

Most students at Mi Escuelita are born to Spanish-speaking parents unable to teach their children English before they enter the Dallas school system. The nonprofit levels the playing field, equipping these young minds with the tools they need for kindergarten and beyond.

"Especially with children who are learning two different languages, they need to be taught in one, or they could get confused and start having delays," Reich explained.

While some families contribute small fees, the program primarily operates through funding from Head Start of Greater Dallas. Every dollar and donation makes a significant difference.

"Federal funding is going down," Reich said. "We don't know what it will look like in the next few months with the Head Start program."

With the $1,000 donation, Reich says there will be more students served.

"$1,000 is going to help scholarship a child at Mi Escuelita Preschool for half a semester. We are just so thankful and blown away," Reich said.

Thanks to their efforts, each student learns, grows, and gains the tools they need to succeed.
