Memorial Unveiled For Slain Saginaw Girl
SAGINAW (CBSDFW.COM/CBS 11 News) - A memorial for a 6-year-old Saginaw girl who police say was sexually assaulted and killed by her teen neighbor was unveiled Saturday.
CBS 11 is told volunteers worked diligently on the memorial for months. Finally, the new outdoor learning center was unveiled in honor of Alanna Gallagher.
The learning center is at Willow Creek Elementary, and is located outside Alanna's former classroom.
At the memorial ribbon cutting ceremony, Alanna's mother spoke of her daughter's love for learning.
"Alanna would love this. She was a bright, vibrant child. She was full of love for live and she cared about people," Ms. Gallagher said. "The idea of a classroom being used to remember her...that's just perfect."
The young girl's body was found in the middle of a street near her Saginaw home in July of 2013.
Tyler Holder, the 17-year-old neighbor, faces capital murder charges in the 6-year-old's death.
On Oct. 17, 2013, Holder was indicted in the attempted capital murder of an Arlington police officer working the investigation. Holder allegedly shot at APD Detective Charles Lodatto when the officer was attempting to serve a warrant on the teen.
Holder has yet to go before a grand jury for the death of Alanna Gallagher.
