MELISSA (CBSDFW.COM) - The director of the Melissa High School band has been arrested on sexual assault charges.

The jail detention website for the Collin County Sheriff's Office shows that Michael Eugene Reddell was taken into custody on Tuesday. He has been charged with sexual assault and an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

The Melissa ISD Police Department is heading up the investigation, along with the Melissa Police Department.

Reddell remains behind bars at the Collin County Jail on Wednesday morning. He has not been arraigned yet, so no bond has been set.

The 38-year-old suspect is listed on the Melissa Independent School District's website as the director of the Mighty Cardinal Band, however, the mother of a Melissa High School band student said that she was informed Tuesday night that Reddell had resigned.

The district has not yet commented on the arrest.

Reddell's bio on the school district website says that he grew up in Sherman and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2005. He previously served as assistant band director at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Worley Middle School, both in the Mansfield Independent School District. He has been with the Melissa ISD since 2010.
