Meet the Stifflers: The family behind the State Fair's sweetest treats

Queen of Sweets: Tammy Stiffler’s 30-year legacy at the State Fair of Texas

DALLAS – From fried Oreos to cookies piled high, Tammy Stiffler is the queen of sweets. Stiffler and her family have been selling sweet treats at the State Fair of Texas for more than three decades. Their business, Stiffler Concessions, is a labor of love that all started with a date with her now-husband.

"It's special to my heart because our very first date was out here 50 years ago. We have been married for 43 years and we love being out here where it all began," Stiffler told CBS News Texas.

The Stifflers have turned their romance into a business that now sells fried s'mores, fried Oreos, fried pumpkin pie, fried Snickers, and other delicious treats at 10 stands across the fairgrounds.

Tammy says she loves being hands-on with her desserts by helping her staff in the kitchen occasionally. This year, the Stifflers have a surprise with a new creation called the "Crookie," which is a baked, gooey cookie combined with a butter croissant.

When customers take their first bite, she says all the hard work is worth it. "Watching people's faces when they walk away and bite into it, it is just a great feeling," Stiffler said.
