McKinney Police Officer Arrested On Aggravated Assault Charge
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW) - A McKinney Police officer has been taken into custody by his own department after he allegedly injured a woman in a domestic dispute.
According to authorities, officers responded to an unknown location at 12:18 a.m. at the request of the McKinney Fire Department.
Upon their arrival, officers learned that a woman had been injured in a domestic disturbance.
The woman was taken to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
McKinney Police arrested Sergeant Audrey Palmer and charged him with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Family Violence.
Palmer has been a member of the McKinney Police Department for 21 years and was assigned to the patrol division.
He has been placed on administrative leave pending a criminal and internal investigation.
Police are releasing few details about this case, but the arrest warrant is shedding light on what happened in the moments before officers found the sergeant's wife bleeding from a stab wound.
Whoever was at the couple's home slammed the door on us when we asked for comment on the case. Neighbor Sierra Rogowski says people here aren't used to news crews covering crimes.
"That's why I live here is it's an extremely quiet neighborhood. Everybody is very kind. Everybody waves at you whenever you're walking down the street. You feel very safe," Rogowski said.
That changed late Wednesday night when Rogowski heard her neighbors arguing.
"I thought I could hear her say, no, stop," Rogowski said.
Thirty-four-year-old Tut Palmer was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound to her abdomen.
"The police were saying, even if it could have been an accidental stabbing, we definitely still need to look into the situation," Rogowski said.
An arrest warrant describes Tut Palmer finding a text message from another woman on her husband's phone. The couple argued, then the wife grabbed a knife from the kitchen.
She told officers after a struggle, the next thing she knew she was stabbed. The violence stands out in contrast to happy images Tut posted on Facebook, even planning a ceremony to renew the couple's vows.
"Everybody is human, and everybody makes mistakes. This is a life-threatening mistake, so I believe that this should be handled very seriously," Rogowski said.
