McKINNEY (CBS11) - A sign reading "Future site of McKinney ISD Stadium" has caused confusion among many in the Collin County city.

The sign sits on a piece of property owned by the district at the corner of Hardin Boulevard and McKinney Rach Parkway.

"I was like that's odd," said local watchdog Laura Kayata when she first saw the sign.

She said what surprised her about it is that McKinney ISD voters have not approved a stadium.

"I think it's either confusing or misleading because it says future stadium," said Kayata. "It doesn't say 'hey, let's vote this could be a possible stadium.' It says future stadium."

McKinney ISD spokesman Cody Cunningham said don't read too much into the sign.

He said voters would have to approve a bond before any stadium could be built and a bond hasn't even been proposed.

Curtis Rath, who ran for McKinney ISD school board in May and lost, posted documents on his online blog, The Right View, he obtained from the school district. The documents include a sketch of a stadium and projected costs that rival Allen ISD's $60-million Eagle Stadium.

Cunningham said no budget or plan has been set and that those document are no more than hypotheticals the district used when determining if the property could someday accommodate a stadium.

He said before any new stadium would be built the district would seek input from a citizens committee, the school board would have decide to hold a bond election, and then voters would have to approve the bond.
