DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - On Tuesday morning, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle told "Shan & RJ'' on 105.3 The Fan that he wasn't certain Monta Ellis would be "playing any time soon.''

Hours later, Carlisle and his playoff-chasing 45-29 Mavs received positive news as Ellis, working through the calf injury that caused him to end his streak of 237 consecutive games played in Sunday's loss at Indy, returned to Mavs practice.

"It looks promising,'' said Carlisle, noting that Ellis - the Mavs' leading scorer — would likely be upgraded to at least questionable for tomorrow's key game at Oklahoma City.

Guard J.J. Barea (ankle) also practiced Tuesday, giving Dallas a chance to be at full strength against OKC, which is in the No. 8 slot in the West, three games behind Dallas.
