Marine Reservist Sentenced To 45 Years For Fatally Stabbing Teen Girlfriend

FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSDFW/AP) - North Texas prosecutors say a 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for fatally stabbing his teenage girlfriend after she told him she no longer wanted to date him.

Luis Erasmo Torres was sentenced Friday in a Fort Worth court. He must serve at least half his sentence before he's eligible for parole.

In July he pleaded guilty to murder in the death of 17-year-old Jocelyn Saucedo.

Prosecutors say after learning Saucedo wanted to end their relationship, Torres purchased a hunting knife before picking up Saucedo after school.

They say he stabbed the teen in the abdomen before calling 911 and admitting the attack.

"This was a horrific and senseless killing," said Assistant District Attorney Bill Vassar. "Jocelyn had her whole life ahead of her."

An investigator had testified that he believed Torres sat outside his vehicle after the stabbing as Saucedo bled to death.
