HARRIS COUNTY (CBS11)  - The City of Houston and much of the surrounding area came to a standstill as more than a foot of rain flooded parts of the region.

Firefighters had to evacuate some homes near Willow Creek in Harris County just north of Houston when water flooded the neighborhood. Now homeowners who were barely spared Sunday night are worried they could be next.

As the water began to swallow up his neighbor's home, Chris Jozwiak could only watch and wait to see if the flooding would keep coming for him.

"It's scary. I'm not going to lie. It's a scary feeling. The water rises quick. I mean in a matter of five o'clock in the morning to nine it was probably, I would say at least two foot it rose. So it's no joke," Jozwiak said.

Willow Creek was one of more than a dozen bodies of water Houston officials identified as problem as communities all over the metro area became covered with flooding.

First responders urged everyone to stay off the roads as they spent the day rescuing people from flood waters. At least two people have been found dead in stranded vehicles so far.

Houston's mayor called for everyone who could to stay at home. Now many wonder what the next rainfall will bring.

"We got lucky. I mean I don't know what tonight's going to do, but hopefully it will drain off more than it will rain," Jozwiak said.
