Mansfield PD: Man shot teenage son, stepdaughter after argument with wife
MANSFIELD (CBSNewsTexas.com) -- A teenage boy and his 21-year-old stepsister are in the hospital in serious condition after a domestic incident in Mansfield late Tuesday night.
Mansfield police say 52-year-old Thomas Boykin assaulted his wife after an argument, then grabbed a handgun and shot his 13-year-old son while he was sleeping. Then he went into his stepdaughter's room and shot her as well.
They were taken to Medical City Arlington, where they underwent surgery overnight.
Boykin is in jail, charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault Family Violence Serious Bodily Injury.
Mansfield ISD confirmed Wednesday that Boykin is an 8th grade science teacher at Linda Jobe Middle School, and has been with the district for 17 years. In a statement, the district said Boykin was placed on leave when they learned of his arrest, and the superintendent will ask the Board of Trustees for approval to fire him.
"Mansfield ISD does not condone this type of behavior in our schools or community. Our thoughts and support are with the victims," the statement said.
Mansfield PD says detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting.
Note: Mansfield PD initially reported that the 13-year-old boy was the suspect's stepson. The boy is actually his son.
