PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - One person is dead after a shooting at a Subway restaurant in Plano. The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 3100 block of Custer Road, near Parker Road. The gunshots were a surprise to many people who were at the strip mall, including a couple young dance students.

"I didn't know what to think. It was so scary," said Scarlet Walls. "I heard about seven gunshots. I didn't want to believe it was gunshots."

Witnesses said that one man was on the ground and another was waiting when police arrived at the restaurant. Authorities roped off a crime scene and began their investigation, interviewing witnesses.

"All of a sudden, police stormed the parking lot and the police department was on it," said Cheryl Nicholson.

Officials said that an argument broke out between 41-year-old Alireza Nikmanesh of Dallas and 36-year-old Kevin Michael Murray of Plano. This is when Nikmanesh went to his car and retrieved a handgun. He allegedly fired multiple shots at Murray. An off-duty captain from Plano Fire-Rescue happened to be nearby, and began helping Murray before emergency personnel could arrive.

Murray was transported to a nearby hospital, but later pronounced dead.

Nikmanesh had remained at the scene and was taken into police custody without incident. He has been charged with murder and is now being held at the Collin County Detention Center.
