Man Recovering From Fall At AT&T Stadium

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A college football fan is still recovering in the hospital on Monday after falling over a low-level railing at AT&T Stadium in Arlington over the weekend. According to officials with the Arlington Fire Department, the male victim fell about 12 to 15 feet, from the first row of seats in Section 100 into one of the field-level suites.

This happened during the second half of Saturday's game between Texas and UCLA.

Fortunately, there is medical personnel on hand at the stadium for every game and event that takes place. They were able to reach the man quickly, and begin helping him at the scene. The fan was taken to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit on Monday. His condition has been upgraded from critical to good.

The fan has not been identified and he did not want to talk about his experience on Monday. But he was conscious and wearing a Texas Longhorns shirt while being treated in the stadium. Texas lost the game 20-17.

Now, officials will begin trying to figure out what went wrong, and how the man ended up tumbling down into the field-level suites from his seat up above. The investigation will be conducted by stadium authorities.

Those taking tours of AT&T Stadium on Monday morning were talking about the fall.

"That seems to happen more frequently at stadiums, whether its a safety issue with the way the seats and railing are or if someone may have had an extra drink or two," said Ray Range, a football fan from Florida. "It's hard to know, but it's definitely a safety issue, regardless."

"It's a shame and sad," added Jim Asplund, a fan from Minnesota. "You figure a newer stadium should have the safety guards in place where things like that don't happen. But, unfortunately, it did."
