LANCASTER (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Lancaster are looking for at least three suspects connected to a deadly drive-by shooting at a city park. The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday night in the 900 block of Meadowcreek Drive.

According to police and witnesses, a group of around 40 to 50 people were hanging out at Meadowcreek Park, which is nestled within a neighborhood, when a car approached with at least three people inside. That vehicle drove past the crowded park and several shots rang out.

One man, identified as 23-year-old Sheldon Earl, was struck twice by the gunfire. He was transported to a nearby hospital, but later died from his injuries. One of the victim's siblings was also at the park, but was not hurt.

Police have not yet made any arrests in this case, but believe that they have identified the three individuals. The fatal shooting is believed to be gang related, but it is not clear if Earl was targeted or simply an innocent bystander. Detectives stayed at the scene for several hours gathering evidence. Authorities have not released any of the suspect names, but confirmed that the car was a white Chevrolet Caprice.

Investigators are also looking for a second car that might have been connected to the drive-by shooting.

Law enforcement officials did add that another scene -- a house in Lancaster -- is also tied to the investigation, but they would not provide any further details. There were no injuries at the second location.

Meanwhile, the community is mourning Earl's death. He was the point guard for Lancaster High School's basketball team just five years ago, dribbling for a team that made it to the state championship finals. Athletic director Beverly Humphrey said that Earl still stands out in her memory. "He was a kid that you could never forget, easy going, great personality," she said. "A great kid to be around."
