Man Gets 90 Years In Jail For Killing Cousin

DENTON (AP) - A North Texas man has been sentenced to 90 years in prison for fatally shooting his cousin as the pair argued about some previous gunfire.

The Denton Record Chronicle reports 58-year-old Humberto Martinez-Benitez of Lewisville was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty Tuesday to murder in the 2012 slaying of 26-year-old Jacob Gutierrez.

Authorities say the cousins allegedly were drinking outside another relative's home in Lewisville when they argued about a gun-related incident several years ago in Mexico.

Martinez-Benitez must serve 30 years in prison before he's eligible for parole. Prosecutors say his criminal history includes a 1993 drug conviction.
