DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in DeSoto are investigating the death of a man who was found on Thursday morning with a gunshot wound. The incident started at around 4:45 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of East Pleasant Run Road.

Police were called to The Pecan Crossing apartment complex about possible shots fired. A woman at the scene said that she heard three gunshots. However, when officers arrived and checked out the area, nothing was found. The scene was cleared and officials left the complex.

Then, around 30 minutes later, police were called back to the scene to investigate a man who was found face-down just outside of a building at the complex. Officers arrived again and discovered that the man had a gunshot wound.

The victim has only been described as a black male between 35 and 40 years of age. His name is not yet known. Police are not even sure if he is a resident of The Pecan Crossing complex.

Neighbors described the community as quiet, and said that this incident has come as a shock. "I know you can't prevent every crime from happening," stated apartment resident MacArthur Thomas. "But, you know, DeSoto normally doesn't have this type of atmosphere, so we are going to hope and pray for the best, and pray for the family."

In fact, there was only one homicide investigation in DeSoto throughout all of last year.

Authorities are interviewing witnesses to determine the man's identity, and what events could have led to his shooting. There has been no information yet about possible suspects, but a vehicle was towed away from the scene. Officials have not said if it is connected to the death investigation.

In the meantime, anyone who might have information about this case is urged to contact the DeSoto Police Department at 972-223-6111.
