LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - The threat is over in Lewisville after police say a man shot his way into a blood center. After a brief standoff, the man was found dead.

An off-duty officer and another person witnessed the man, who was armed with a gun, shoot out the windows of the storefront and go inside the Carter BloodCare Center on West Main Street around 8:15 Monday night. The center was closed at the time.

A SWAT team spent four hours trying to coax the man out. Police say despite negotiating with authorities, they believe the man turned the gun on himself. Officers at the scene never fired any weapons and when they finally went inside they found the man dead.

Investigators say no one else was hurt, but the suspect was carrying duffle bags and gasoline. Police weren't sure if any of the devices were combustible, so an explosives disposal team from Denton was called in as a precaution.

Hours after the incident the man's body was still inside the center. At one point, police had the perimeter set up at about 200 yards back and that meant some people in a 24 hour gym next door were unable to leave.

The name of the suspect has not been released. At this point, employees for Carter BloodCare do not think the man was a current or former employee.

The center will remain closed until police are finished with their investigation. It was already scheduled closed today.
