Man Confesses To Shooting, Killing Unarmed Security Guard At Dallas Hotel
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man is in Dallas Police custody charged with murder after the deadly shooting of an unarmed security guard at the Holiday Inn Express at 9089 Vantage Point Drive shortly after 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.
When police got to the scene, they found Adane Weldekiros, 72, shot to death in the parking lot.
Weldekiros' last words were, "Please don't do this," according to witnesses and the police report.
Guests and coworkers inside the hotel said they heard those words and then gun shots.
"They're distraught. They're sad. They lost a family member," said Ahad Gardizi, a manager at the hotel.
The suspect, Randal Terrell, a 34, was arrested at the scene after confessing to shooting Weldekiros.
Police said Terrell had been thrown out of the hotel hours earlier.
He was taken to jail for murder with bond set at $100,00o.
Weldekiros worked the overnight shift at the Holiday Inn Express off Greenville Avenue in North Dallas for about three months.
He moved to the U.S. from Ethiopia and worked in security for more than a decade.
He was a husband and father.
As for Terrell, police said they found him sitting on a bench with his gun in an open suitcase.
When police asked him if he pulled the trigger, they said Terrell said, "Yes." When police asked why, Terrell stopped talking.
The hotel manager, Gardizi said he checked in the suspected gunman around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He said Terrell seemed like a normal guest until later that night.
"He was being very belligerent. He was being really loud and he scared most of my guests," said Ahad Gardizi, the manager at the Holiday Inn Express. "He had his luggage and he was coming out talking to himself, yelling and then he took off."
The hotel manager said Terrell was thrown out around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday evening and thought he was gone.
Terrell returned with his gun.
Police have not released any information on a possible motive.
