An East Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2012 shooting deaths of his ex-wife and her 11-year-old daughter.

Joshual Reese pleaded guilty Monday to capital murder in a plea deal during his trial in Longview.

Prosecutors were not seeking the death penalty against Reese, who could have faced life in prison without parole in the October 2012 slayings. The victims were 28-year-old La Toya Reese and her daughter, Mya Sebron.

Both were fatally shot in October 2012 at their apartment in Longview. Investigators say the couple had been divorced about a month.

A judge sentenced the 33-year-old Reese to two concurrent life prison terms, with the possibility of parole.
