DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas film critic Garry Murray was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Friday night.
Murray was leaving a Dallas Film Society Honors event at Mockingbird near North Central Expressway.
John "Doc" Strange, a friend of Murray's for 27 years says tells CBS11 in a statement, "He was a true old style journalist who believed in researching every story and interview. He had an encyclopedic memory of facts about film that stood him well over the years... He was more than a friend to all of us in the film and comedy communities, he was family. Once you got to know him you were family from then on. Many of the people he had the opportunity to interview over the years would probably say the same thing."
Strange goes on to say, "We have lost a brother as well as a great friend. We know he is sitting in the theater in heaven next to Bowie, Prince, Elvis and John Belushi eating popcorn and watching movies. Or maybe sitting in and listening to jam sessions from "the guys". Either way, I know he is happy. We will miss his wit and wisdom every time we sit in a theater to watch a film for the rest of our lives."
Strange who is a partner at Selig Film News, for whom Murray worked.
Dallas Police are still looking for the driver who struck Murray.
