Living Large: The Preston Hollow Art House
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - White walls, black trim on doors and windows, long hallways – all perfect spaces for an art gallery. And, in fact, this is a house made for someone who loves art.
"When you have an acre of land to put your art and things you love. It's a different way of living," explained Ann Goyer, senior vice president of Briggs Freeman, the realty company that is listing the property.
Goyer said it was recently on the market for $4 million, and would be a dream home for an artist, or art lover.
The Mediterranean-style home, located in the Preston Hollow area, draws a lot of inspiration from several architectural styles.
The 90-foot long entrance hallway defines the space, "almost like a classical renaissance-style of looking into a beautiful home and seeing all the way through," Goyer said.
The 19 gas lamps and the use of French doors throughout the house is a shout-out to the owner's Louisiana roots.
The modern and open-floor plan makes the 7,100-sqaure-foot home feel much larger.
The yard is adorned with sculptures, by Janet McGreal, which make the landscape a work of art in itself. "You look out and there's a fabulous dogwood tree blooming in spring, said Goyer, pointing to a courtyard in the middle of the home, where sunshine rains down on gardens through natural skylights.
Another special feature that the new homeowner likely will use this summer is the phantom screens on the back porch. "You decide you want to be outside, but you don't want any mosquitoes or flies to come in, you have these phantom screens. That's a new way of creating an outdoor room," Goyer said.
The five bedroom, six bath home has a walk-in closet, as well, and a grand master bath that looks more like a spa.
