Lawmakers Hear Testimony On State Economy

AUSTIN (AP) - Texas state lawmakers are hearing from business leaders on the general state of the Texas economy and the impact of credit card data theft and private information on consumers and businesses.

Gov. Rick Perry has touted the strength of the state's economy as he has encouraged companies to move to Texas from other state. Greg Abbott, the Republican nominee for governor, also has lauded the state economy as one of the strongest in the nation.

Federal data showed that Texas created nearly half of the nation's new jobs in the two years following the June 2009 official end of the last recession.

Thursday's hearing is before the House Business and Industry Committee, which is meeting in Austin.
