Large Police Presence Set For State Fair
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The State Fair of Texas kicks off later this week. Crews have hoisted the iconic Big Tex cowboy into place. Original State Fair Brew and Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil took home the fair's annual food awards. And now, final preparations are underway to make sure that the thousands of fair visitors are safe.
The Dallas Police Department held a news conference on Tuesday morning, outlining the basic police procedures for this year's State Fair of Texas.
There will be a very large police presence around Fair Park, as there is every year. That includes both police in uniform and undercover officers.
Deputy Chief Malik Aziz said that the department is even prepared for potential terrorist threats, which is a part of their job year-round. "We look at these things daily, even hourly, about intelligence that's coming in or information that we may get or obtain that may harm anybody that we are protecting," Aziz said. "We are there. We are doing the things that we normally would do."
Fair visitors are asked to report anything suspicious to the police, no matter how small it may seem.
Officials have some other advice for families attending the State Fair of Texas. If you are picking up children at the fair, do not wait until closing to arrive. Also, pre-arrange a location and time to meet.
