Lake Lavon Gets Much Needed Rain
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - The water levels at Lake Lavon, Collin County's largest water source, are low at nearly 12 feet below normal. Residents and businesses in the area welcomed the rain.
Masha Hanky, a manger at Lakeview Nursery in Farmersville, said the rain helped her business. "We're extremely, extremely happy. Our plants really need it."
There are more than ten acres of trees, shrubs, and plants at the nursery. When it doesn't rain, the crew must rely on their pond to water everything everyday.
The manager said the employees are very nervous about the month of August because they've watched as the levels have dropped. That concern had them very glad to see the rain.
"If we just get one day of rain, that's already a huge impact for us. We can water them everyday, but the rain really makes a big change," explained Hanky.
Water managers looked to the city of McKinney as an indicator of how much rain the lake received.
The current estimation is that McKinney received more than one and a half inches of rain.
It will take several days to see how much run-off entered the lake, and how much higher it became.
